Do Your Clients Disappear?

In one of my recent Instagram Lives, I talked about a client who had suddenly reappeared after a 4-month hiatus.

She wasn't my first client to disappear, and she won't be my last.

In order to avoid this happening in the future, I developed a 6-step process to make sure that my clients won't disappear without warning.

  1. Don't take it personally: There are a million reasons as to why a client disappears. Whatever the reason, the first thing you want to do is not to take it personally. The chances are good that it's them, not you.

  2. Ask better questions in the discovery session: In my discovery session with my coach, she bluntly asked me, "Are you doing to show up to the coaching and do the homework or not?" Don't be afraid to ask the hard questions so that you know you will have a committed client.

  3. Build a strong rapport ASAP: Take some time to get to know the client. Be relatable and remember you are their coach, not their friend.

  4. Ask for feedback regularly: Check in with the client and ask them how the coaching is going for them.

  5. Reach out: If the client has disappeared, have a system in place to connect with the client either by phone or email. Let them know that you are there for them.

  6. Be there for the client when they return because most clients will reappear when they are ready.
